Bee-come fashionable this season!
There are more than 20,000 bee species found across the globe, living on every continent except Antarctica. South Africa alone is home to around 1,400 species, including the familiar honeybee.
Bees play a vital role as pollinators, carrying pollen on their bodies as they move from flower to flower. Protecting and supporting these insects is essential, as they are responsible for pollinating roughly one-third of the world’s food supply. Yet many bee species are under threat, particularly from pesticides that harm their habitats. Protecting bees means safeguarding our ecosystems and our future.
Show your love for our bees by making a donation to support their conservation. As a thank you for your generosity, you'll receive a beautiful Mulberry Mongoose bee charm and necklace.
WWF’s Focus
WWF works to protect our natural resources so we can continue to benefit from food, water and a healthy climate.
WWF’s work is concentrated in areas where ecological integrity and the delivery of nature’s resources are of greatest importance. These priority areas are the Fynbos, Succulent Karoo and Grasslands biomes, the strategic water source areas, the black rhino range expansion habitats and important coastal, inshore and offshore marine ecosystems. Our urban focus spans across South Africa’s key metros and several secondary cities.
We believe that communities have a critical role to play in addressing the illegal wildlife trade. Thus, we are building relationships between protected areas and communities by supporting partnerships between communities, NGOs and government institutions. These partnerships focus on improving the collective management of protected areas and equitable access to natural resources, and developing communities that are safe, healthy and have socio-economic opportunities.
