ADOPT A HARE
There’s no-bunny like an ear-resistable hare to put a hop in your step!
South Africa is home to two main hare species: the scrub hare and the Cape hare. While they appear very similar, the scrub hare is slightly larger than the Cape hare, which also has less white on its underside. Both species are widely distributed across southern Africa, but they favour different habitats. The Cape hare is typically found in open, arid areas and grasslands, whereas the scrub hare prefers thick grass and bushes.
Although neither species is currently considered threatened, factors such as habitat loss from human development, hunting, and overgrazing may pose risks to their populations. Hares are highly adaptable animals and serve as important indicators of healthy eco-systems. Hares are essential in maintaining regional biodiversity because they are crucial prey for predators, they help disperse plant seeds and help maintain the structure of their habitat by grazing on a variety of vegetation.
Show your love and support for our South African hares this Easter by making a symbolic adoption of a very cute plushie hare.
